Potential Members

Are you interested in becoming a better man? Do you have a passion for impacting and helping those around you? Are you looking for more than just a college degree at Oregon State? Then Theta Chi Fraternity might be the right chapter for you.

Theta Chi has many unique and exciting opportunities for its members. We are fortunate enough to encompass some of Oregon State’s most impressive student leaders right here in our Chapter. In addition to all of the opportunities, involvement, and activities that we participate in within the Greek Community, Theta Chi opens doors for its members in a variety of areas that accommodate a wide range of opportunity for involvement, leadership, and friendship. These are just a few of the benefits that Theta Chi can offer, the opportunities are endless, and you are encouraged to make your experience your own!

Brotherhood

Our chapter members come together often and spend time together, getting to know each other well, and having a great time. We organize events that we call ‘brotherhood’ events. These range from a trip to the movies, to going on road trips, even to away Oregon State sporting events and bowl games. In addition to this, our brothers are highly involved in intramural sports, which provides a great recreation opportunity for our members to participate in together.

Thanks to our alumni support, we have the best tailgating location for the Oregon State football games of any Greek Chapter. Before every game, we are all out by the stadium , enjoying the tailgating festivities of grilling and socializing. Even if you aren’t interested in the games, the tailgating experience alone is still very enjoyable for everyone.

One of the more enjoyable events we share together every year as brothers is our formal in the spring semester.  For formal, we typically stay at a hotel someone near, and have a formal reception to cap off the year, and most importantly have a lot of fun.  We bring dates, and use this event as a way to honor the graduating seniors and outstanding members of the chapter.  It’s one of the best parts of the year, and always something to look forward to.

The opportunity for brotherhood development is constant, and these are only a few examples of the events that bring our members closer. Whether it’s going on a Spring Break trip together, or something as simple as watching a movie in the basement, we have endless opportunities to have fun with our other brothers.  We elect a member each year to be the Brotherhood Chairman, and we are constantly finding new and exciting events to become closer with our fellow brothers and to enjoy life together.

Networking

We are very fortunate to have a strong alumni advisor who is well connected with many distinguished administrative members in the university. We organize dinner speakers during the semester, in which we have a formal dinner with the speaker and then after,we get an opportunity to interact with the speaker in a Q & A session. Just this past year, we have had the privilege to meet with many alumni, professors, deans, and the President of Greek Life, Bob Kerr, just to name a few.  We can confidently say that all of our guest speakers have come away impressed with our chapter facility and the men within in it.

As stated above, our alumni advisors are a major asset to our chapter. Besides obviously being very knowledgeable about the chapter and OSU Greek community in general, they have provided us endless opportunities to be more well connected with our university, potential employers, and other alumni of our chapter.  Networking is a huge advantage of being Greek, and alumni have always been a great help in that regard. They are very respected in the Corvallis and OSU community, and we certainly are very privileged to have them be a part of our chapter.

Scholarship

“Alma Mater First, and Theta Chi for Alma Mater.”  This is the maxim of Theta Chi Fraternity, and states that we put our academics and loyalty to our university above Theta Chi.  We all joined Theta Chi to enhance our college experience, but we must remember the reason we are here: to earn a college degree.  That being said, our chapter puts a big stress on academics and does our best to put members in a position to succeed in the classroom.

Every semester, our chapter has multiple members that make the Dean’s List for their respective colleges by earning a GPA of 3.5 or higher, and the house average GPA must be higher than the "All Men's Average" at Oregon State. Each member is expected to get above a 2.7, and those who do not achieve this receive any and all aid and support that will help them to achieve this. One of the primary concerns about going Greek is “will I have time to study?”  While Greek life can be time consuming at certain points, with good time management skills and study habits, being a Greek will do nothing but aid your academics.  Our chapter has shown that we can be very active and social, all while being great students.

Even being a medium sized chapter, we have a variety of majors represented in the chapter.  Whether it’s engineering, business, design, or liberal arts, our chapter embraces our academic diversity.  Even with a variety of different majors, our chapter has plenty of resources to help all of us be successful. We have tests files for many courses, access to academic resources, and other brothers in our house who are always willing to help others succeed. We’ve seen former members of our chapter go on to become doctors and CEO’s of companies, because they were put in a position to succeed academically by being a member of Theta Chi.  While we have many resources, we stress that the member also has to have the personal drive to do well, and that’s something we really look for when recruiting new members.

SOCIAL

While we always have a good time with the other brothers in the chapter, some of the most fun events we have are with other Greek houses at OSU.  We have a variety of social events with other fraternities and sororities in the Greek community throughout the year.  Not only are these a lot of fun, but they are a great way to meet people outside of Theta Chi.

One of our great traditions at Theta Chi is our annual sorority pancake breakfast.  This takes place during the Friday morning of work week, right after bid day for sorority rush.  As a courtesy, we offer a free pancakes breakfast to all sorority women at OSU.  The event is always a lot of fun, and is a great opportunity for some of our new members to meet the ladies from other chapters.

Dinner Exchanges are another fun event we like to do with sororities.  This typically consists of half our guys going to a sorority house for dinner, while half of the sorority comes to our house for dinner.  We are typically dressed in formal attire, and have our members walk to the sorority to escort them back to Theta Chi.  We try to do a few of these each year, and often they involve a certain theme or guest speaker to accompany the dinner.

Our two big events of the year in the Greek community, Homecoming and Greek week, have a ton of social opportunities with other chapters.  For both events, we are paired with a sorority and at least one other fraternity at OSU and compete with other pairings to try to win certain events.  We have the opportunity to socialize with our pairing at a these events, and also get together for a few official socials where we grill out and get to know eachother better. Events like IFC SING are great for new members to meet a variety of members of other chapters.  Outside of that, there are tournaments, community service opportunities, and many other things that we do to get involved.

Involvement

Theta Chi gives its members a lot of opportunities to get involved.  Unlike larger chapters, it is much easier to get a position in the house right away and work your way up to a leadership role.  While we provide opportunities to our members this way, many chose to further their involvement with other organizations outside of the chapter.

Getting involved with other campus organizations is a great way to develop your own path as a college students.  We require all our members to be a part of at least one club on campus.  With well over 1700 clubs on campus, you can quite literally “choose your adventure” at Oregon State.

We are very proud to have several campus leaders of prominent student organizations that are members of Theta Chi. In the past year, we’ve had members who are on the exec committees for, ASOSU, OSU's Interfraternity Council (IFC), Student Alumni Leadership Council, Dance Marathon, Hope 4 Africa @ OSU and others.  We even have a member who started his own non-profit organization! Learn more about our philanthropic efforts >>

While we are involved on campus, we still do our best to be involved within the Greek community outside of Theta Chi. We know involvement in the Greek community is for the greater good of the Greek system and a great way to project a positive image of our chapter. We have members who have served on Inter Fraternity Council and Order of Omega. We also have members who have have volunteered for various Greek community events. To try and help out other houses, we participate in almost every sororities' philanthropy every term. With this involvement, we hope to help keep OSU as one of the top Greek communities in the country.
